      The PL14WJ09-08 is a 5-inch mid-woofer speaker driver that was manufactured by Vifa (now Scanspeak). It was discontinued in 2012, but it is still a popular choice for DIY speakers due to its smooth sound and extended bass response.

       

      The PL14WJ09-08 has a number of features that make it a good choice for mid-range applications. It has a NRSC coated paper cone with a wide profile low rubber surround. This gives the driver a smooth and extended bass response, with a cutoff frequency of around 50 Hz. The driver also has a large magnet assembly, which gives it good power handling and efficiency.

       

      The PL14WJ09-08 is not particularly efficient, with a sensitivity of 86 dB (2.83V; 1m). However, this can be compensated for by using a larger cabinet or by pairing the driver with a more efficient tweeter.
