One of the Great Bargains In Affordable Hi-Fi today is the Dayton Audio APA150. The APA150 is a well constructed class A/B amplifier with a number of useful features. Among them is the inclusion of a totally passive preamplifier which allows the APA150 to be used as a stereo integrated amplifier, which produces 75 watts per channel into a 4 ohm speaker load, and 50 watts per channel into an 8 ohm speaker. The APA150 can also be used as a dedicated amplifier with a full function active preamplifier. It also has a switch for monaural use, which allows its user to bridge this amplifier so that two APA150s can be used as monoblock amplifiers, which triples the wattage of each amplifier to 150 watts per channel into an 8 ohm speaker load; giving the APA monoblock combination the ability to drive some difficult speaker loads. The APA150 can also be used in mono operation to drive the center channel of an audio visual system. The consumer should also keep in mind that the APA150 usually sells for between $125 and $280 new depending on the merchant, so it pays to shop around before buying one.
Of course, the most important issue here is how the APA150 sounds. It a word: musical. the 150 is dynamic, detailed and an all around excellent performer which faithfully honors the music.
Highly recommended!
