I have bought four RS180p 4ohm (paper) for my system, It is a 5 ways-system with separate amplifier for each range. The earth of the system is a couple of Spica Tc 50 (1991) in which I use only the original 6” woofer for midrange frequencies between 400-4000 Hz. Beyond that ranges I use for the high three Emit Infinity, while in the very deep bass, 20-50 Hz, there is a couple of Mirage subwoofers with 12” unit.
For each channel I use 2 Dayton's for further reduce distorsion and further increase dynamic answer on mid-low bass (drum, piano, bass). Result: superior body, air and sense of reality to the whole 3D stage.
Each Dayton RS180p is put in a Wharfedale Diamond 8.2 box in place of the original 6" mid-woofer. Therefore is driven by a separate amplifier (60 watt) having kept away also the original tweeter. Dimensions of the box are almost ok (10 litres bass reflex) and then the 2 Dayton's give 60+60 for each channel.
The result is a very, very low distorsion and a superior readiness to transients with a deeper liquid scene 3D, natural sound, especially with vocals, classic orchestra and country west coast as well.
