With high excursion capabilities and low Fs, Dayton Audio's TCP115-8 can produce a surprising amount of bass for a 4" woofer. In addition to its low frequency performance, this driver also performs very well through the midrange, making this driver ideal for use in smaller 2-way designs.

Dayton Audio TCP115-8 4" Treated Paper Cone Woofer

The TCP115-8 combines a large motor, 1" 4-layer voice coil, vented pole, and a sizable rubber surround to make use of its 4 mm of Xmax. This combination of features makes it a very versatile driver which can be used as a bass driver in a small 2-way system, center channel, or even portable Bluetooth speaker designs.

This driver is capable of some stunning results. Yes, it's not very efficient, but it does have a great smooth sound. I paired it with the ND25TA tweeter to make a nice bookshelf / desktop speaker. I chose a ported box (21.5 x 12.5 x 16.5)cms (approx 4.4L) tuned to 55Hz with a 1st order on the woofer and 2nd order crossover on the tweeter. The results are very impressive indeed. Really nice woofer. It will perform as a subwoofer and mid woofer as well. Perfect for MTM applications as the efficiency is not really best.

Build quality isn't incredible but what can you expect at this price? Installed 1 of these in a small 3D printed vented enclosure as a subwoofer for a desktop 2.1 system with 2x Dayton PC83s as the main speakers, and it gets impressively low for a 4" speaker in a ~2 litre box. Sounds great overall!

It has just the righty specifications to fit in a very small enclosure (approx 3.3 litres) and are very well made. They are for replacing the paper woofers/bass units found in the Bang & Olufsen CX50 speakers (with some minor box and speaker modification) Very well made and great looking, great find.

The values provided by the manufacturer do not seem correct to me. To me they don't sound as good in 3-liter reflex as the manufacturer suggests. You should go from 4 to 5.3 / 4 liters in my opinion, only then you will have really strong and deep bass, even if not perfectly accurate at all. Then they are extremely linear up to 2500 hz.

Absolutely blown away by this speaker. I needed a small bookshelf speaker that could stand up against my floor standing speakers so I built a ported 3.9 litre enclosure, which after allowing for the driver, port and crossover was around 3.2 litres.
